I am using Fedora 41 and wanted to install kdenlive through Discover. In Discover, I saw all the versions from Fedora repository, Fedora Flatpak and Flathub, are 24.08.2. I installed. But when I wanted to render a video to MP4 or MKV, it showed 'unsupported video codec libx264. I searched the internet and found someone in a forum asked to update. So, I went to the website of kdenlive and found that 24.08.03 has been released and there are links to download Appimage and Flatpak. I clicked the Flatpak link and copied the link given for the installation and installed. But in a utter surprise, this kdenlive version is 24.08.2!!! See the image below:
I didn’t know. I just went to the website and found this discrepancy. Shouldn’t they ready all the releases i.e. for Appimage and Flatpak and then announce the release after making them available?! It is so much confusing!!!
Maybe, but official software releases are usually for the source code tarballs. Then, the distros and other volunteers package things up for the various places and formats. In other words, the packagers are not always the software’s developers, and packaging can at times be more complicated than simply compiling the code. Interconnecting the various independent pieces and all that.
