As a workaround, you can use an IME (e.g. fcitx5). Its clipboard works as you want (for text content. You can’t paste a picture from an IME).
(Plus many other goodies like unicode / emoji input)

How to mark my donation to KDE as going to specific bugfix?
So many new features were added that you never use or don’t even know they exist, but fundamental/core feature like this is still unfixed, I would really appreciate a fix for this than anything else.
