While display dimensions and pixel density are increasing (QUXGA, WQUXGA), KMyMoney (and other programs too) lacks of a better GUI configuration. This affects, for example, font size for menus and icon sizes. They are to small for this resolution options.
First, some suggestions are, to scale display from 100% to 150% or 200%. This option is a bad solution while loosing the original ability of the display dimensions. It’s a loss of 50-100% of the origin display resultion the monitor offers.
Good solutions are, offering seperate configuration possibilites in applications to adjust menu font size and the size of icons (e.g. options “smaller”, “small”, “normal”, “large”, “larger”).
A good example of offerings GUI ajustments is Free Office / SoftMaker Office from SoftMaker Office GmbH. There’s a slider which a user can adjust font and symbol size of the GUI appearance. This focus of adjusting GUI appereance means also, not editing config-files in an awkwark way.
Does KMyMoney offers configuration possibilites for the menu font size or to enlarge symbol/icon sizes?
Changing fonts and their size is a feature of the global KDE systemsettings and can therefore not be changed through the application.
And how /where can I change these settings in Linux Mint Cinnamon?

That might be more a question for a Linux Mint forum, I guess. I honestly have no idea how to do that in this environment. Does someone else?
This is not only a question to the Linux Mint Forum.
KMyMoney offers on the homepage to use it on various Linux distributions (e.g. providing the software by AppImage format) as well on Windows- respectively Mac-OS plattforms. This means, this kind of KDE applications are idended to use them outside of KDE-environments.
It would be (very) helpful, to have the same configuration possibilites for KMyMoney as well as other KDE applications which can be used outside from KDE environments…
Has anybody any idea how to customize KMyMoney on a non KDE Linux Desktop environment like the alternative Linux Mint?
The font size of the user interface (e.g. menues, dialouge or pop-up windows) is too small…
Only the font type and font size for lists in the detail-panel is customizable.
On Cinnamon, Qt apps like KMyMoney don’t pick up the desktop’s font settings, so the usual fix is the qt5ct / qt6ct tool (install whichever matches your KMyMoney build from the Software Manager), then add the line QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt5ct (or qt6ct) to ~/.profile and log out and back in. After that, open the qt5ct/qt6ct app and under the Fonts tab you can set a larger General font, which KMyMoney will use for menus and dialogs. For the toolbar icons, right-click the toolbar inside KMyMoney and choose Icon Size, which works outside Plasma too. If you’d rather scale just this one app, launching it with QT_SCALE_FACTOR=1.25 kmymoney enlarges everything in KMyMoney without changing your display scaling.
I’ve realized your first suggestion by installing qt6ct and adding parameter “QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt6ct” to configfile “~/.profile”. So good so far…
Unfortunatele in KMyMoney the qt6ct settings aren’t taking effects yet (like window style or even font type and font size settings…)
Do you have any further idea, how to check in KMyMoney, that settings from qt6c will be used?
Otherwise I will try the second solution “scale factor” even it’s only for applications instead of the whole display configuration.
Help/About KMyMoney… on the Components tab, near the bottom - it shows the version of Qt the program is using and was compiled with.
One peace of puzzle solved → KMyMoney is based on QT-Version 6.11.1 → qt6ct (config tool)
Following scenario:
config file “~/.profile” → export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt6ct
config file "/etc/environment.d/qt6.conf → QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt6ct
config tool “qt6ct”
→ recognises the QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME variable with value=qt6ct
→ no warnings / no information about unset variable QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME
→ configuration of windows styles, font types, font sizes as wanted (specially font size)
→ executing function “creating fonts.conf”
→ config file "~/.config/qt6c/qt6ct.conf is created/written/saved
next actions:
- restart of Linux Mint
- start of KMyMoney
result:
→ unfortunately KMyMoney appears still in standard style & font size (which is too small!!)

I don’t think this is your problem, but remember that KMyMoney can be compiled against either Qt5 or Qt6, determined at build time. You need to check the version you are actually using to be certain. Also, have you run from command line, just to be sure there is no useful output with any hints. There probably are not, but it’s worth looking. Also, are you running X11 or Wayland, and in the latter case, have you followed their specific instructions?

After the descriped actions hadn’t any effects to the appearance of KMyMoney I use the second option with start-paramter QT_SCALE_FACTOR. It helps to increase the font and symbol size of menues…
In one or two years I will start a second attempt, that appearance configurations of QT-based applications should work with the QT5-/QT6-configuration tools unter Linux Mint. This should be the normal way of using and managing applications…
