If you add one desktop to one activity, it’ll add one desktop to all activities.
Which is not good, if it could each activity and it separate desktop.

this is one of several often asked for aspects of the Activities feature, but is unfortunately not possible at present.
the only way to achieve this at present is to create a separate user and switch to that user when working on “activities” that are specific to that use case.
someday it may be possible to fold all of the separate user preferences into Activities, but for now it’s limited to only a select few things like background images and desktop widgets.
the Activities feature could be greatly improved, but resources to work on it are apparently thin.
Just to add some support to the feature request to hopefully raise the priority.
Being able to configure virtual desktops (e.g. specific names) per activity would be very useful and potentially make both features:
- more complimentary, enabled better realisation of the benefits of both
- make it easier to understand the difference and usefulness of both.
Currently, Activities and Virtual Desktops in effect, creates a grid of Virtual Desktops. Per Activity the number and name of the Virtual Desktops are the same. Yes there are more features of activities but that is not the focus for this comment.
In actual usage: the number and names of virtual desktops from one activity may not be relevant for the other activities.
For example: activities of Personal & Work; previously named Virtual Desktops for Work do not fit for the personal activity:, frontend-dev, backend-dev, test, prod, win11.
The names of the Desktops either may end up being irrelevant to other activities (as in the example above) or be renamed to something more generic but less useful for each activity (e.g. Desktop 1, 2 …).
The number of virtual desktops needed for each activity may vary, e.g. less needed for personal but more for work.
I appreciate there may be comments suggesting switching the dimensions of Activities and Desktops but that fundamentally does help. The desktops still in effect form a grid.
Anyone have the links to the current feature request?

yes, i could see how one activity, say Taxes…
- might need 3 virtual desktops named Properties, Documents, and Worksheets
but another activity, say Website…
- might only need 2 virtual desktops Build, and Assets
this would require each activity to have it’s own set of .dot files, as if they were a separate user acct.
