Activity-Related functionality sugestion discusion

Hello, briefly I tried a we while back probably, more than a year and more, to get involved with KDE-Plasma some may remember vaguely my fails and bits and bobs.

Activity related discussion.

I have created to activities if that’s the proper word. I have added them Via placing the widget in my top bar. Also present in this topbar, is a long list horizontally of runners-desktop files with just icon showing, basic click and run.

Having inquired via AI I have found out that yes they exists(environments) there is no formal way of settings things. Basically, switch to activity, then set wallpaper, set this desktop widget and so on.

There seems no “Manger Setup” you cant seem to say make this activity and set this wallpaper, this krunner, run this script, and so on.

History

According to AI this was a feature, but no one seems to agree on things, so its been left!

Unfulfilled sort of speak, I also understand that so many permutations would exist, it would be a mammoth type task and would also take a lot of working out. So the Idea has be left, its dis jointed manual setup now.

AIM

Im no programmer, in the sense of KDE I would not know anything about it. My aim is to try to gain some ideas, here as how “Various” bits would/could fit together. To possibly get the ball moving, instead of left forgotten.

I personally would like to see a very basic start, “Create a Activity” and be able to say activity name, select look wallpaper, clone possibly present setup “plasma bar setup” or alter it, be able to set a script”so that when run/triggered” it would launch X program plus files. And so on.

Im thinking on my feet here, trying to stimulate interest and action. Gather ideas, an possibly action.

Hoping it will become active positive discussion.

Please discuss.

Hi,

Reading your post was hard for me, mainly because I didn’t get your point until the very end. I’ll recap what I understood and then I will give you some advice.

From what I can get, you want to improve the activities creation workflow by creating a dialog to preset some details of new activities.

Your post could use some rephrasing and a better choice of titles, I think: you can do it with the pencil icon under your post. There are some typos which you should correct before posting so that people can understand and contribute, and — if I properly understood your goal — the post title should reflect the fact that you want to talk about activities presets, not just vague features: this helps catching people interested in such functionality.
If I was you, I would avoid all the “history” stuff where you explain how you got to the problem, because in your case they don’t help much to understand it: knowing that you used AI to look for it doesn’t help much. For me, the “AIM” section should be the post itself, unless you can provide useful information to justify your aim; in fact, what your post misses is references to previous discussions (which I suppose exist, because you talk about no one agreeing on things), and this would help a lot to catch up on the issue and enter the discussion. You could also point to similar issues which have been discussed to show that it is something worth organizing for.
Finally, I would add your own ideas to start: this would help start a discussion because people could start reacting to those ideas; like this, the post is an empty space to be filled but there’s little reason to do it.

Thank you for your reply, I think its a personal, message rather than a forum reply.

You talk about, “(which I suppose exist, because you talk about no one agreeing on things),”
That phrase was ruffly Ai’s idea, I use Ai obviously asking Ai about ‘Activites’, I was able to set two activities, However, while the activity is self is set, the actual things, like “launching an app” when that activity is triggered, has to be done manually. There is seemingly no ‘activity manger’ where you “set activity plus what happens”. you have to activate activity, then change/setup the other bits, scripts, wallpaper, there is no Form to set that. Its lauch, then make each thing manually.
