Adaptive sync randomly malfunctioning?

im on opensuse tw, using kde wayland. everything should be pretty updated, but this has happened through a few version updates. im not really entirely sure if this is strictly a kde issue, maybe someone can steer me in the right direction if its not. adaptive sync is set to auto.

using my computer as normal, browsing firefox with a couple of windows in one workspace, discord open in another, steam in another. firefox is playing a youtube video. had vlc and dolphin idling in another, but not much is going on otherwise. suddenly my cursor starts to skip as if the desktop is running at only a few fps. at the same time the monitor is slightly “pulsing” or flickering (like when enabling always on adaptive sync). dragging a window makes everything run smooth again, and any desktop animations seem to run smoothly. only the cursor seems to be affected from what i can tell. switching to another workspace can temporarily “fix” the issue, but i’m still seeing the pulsing/flickering here and there. restarting the computer resolves it, and it can function fine daily for weeks without seeing it again.

no clue what triggers it really, or where to even begin to diagnose or fix it.

i’m using an alienware aw3423dw monitor (gsync i think) connected with displayport to an amd 9070xt.

if im missing any useful information, feel free to ask
