I mentioned this possibility offhand over in this Brainstorm thread about adding an AI assistant to KDevelop / KDE Plasma itself– that this is the only application of AI that I would support adding to any KDE project. But I think I’m getting ahead of myself:
Okay, so, Glaze and Nightshade are two sides of the same coin (and developed by the same team)– they’re GenAI-adjacent tools (i.e. they use much of the same tech as GenAI) with the explicit purpose of (in the case of Glaze) protecting an artist’s work and style from being added to GenAI models through training data, and (in the case of Nightshade) explicitly attacking said GenAI models through training data poisoning.
These are wonderful things to have for artists who are increasingly afraid of being replaced by AI; the ability to protect your own work or actively fight back is a wonderful ability to have. However, right now, these two programs are A: standalone and not built into any art software (I.E. you have to download the program, give it an already existing image file, and let it cook), and B: not in the Linux ecosystem at all; there’s a Windows executable and a MacOS app for both Glaze and Nightshade but zero options other than Wine for running it on Linux.
Getting into contact with the Glaze/Nightshade team and getting it built into Krita would be AMAZING– not only would it inherently get Glaze and Nightshade onto Linux (‘cause after all, Krita’s at home here on Linux), it’d also potentially draw in more new users, artists who are willing to swap to a new art program for the (potential) ease of use of having Glaze/Nightshade available within 1 to 2 clicks
