After I let Discover update my HP laptops BIOS, it has lost its boot entry.
Message at boot:
fwupd-efi version 1.7
WARNING: No updates to process, exiting in 10 seconds.
After 10 seconds: BootDevice Not Found
In BIOS, UEFI Boot Order only option is Linux Firmware Updater
When I start the laptop and press F9 to choose boot order, I can choose Boot from file, then choose to boot from \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI then it is possible to boot into KDE Linux.
My latest KDE Linux boot option in the list is KDE Linux (202509180254)
How do I get rid of the UEFI Boot Order Linux Firmware Updater and back to normal UEFI boot order for KDE Linux?
Did the BIOS update turn Secure Boot on, by chance? I’ve had that happen to my HP Laptop after BIOS updates. It’s super annoying. Turning it back off always resolves the issue for me.
Some motherboards, maybe laptops too, have an option to recover lost EFI boot options. I think it re-scans available, connected drives for EFI boot partitions. On mine, it’s called Automated EFI Recovery. See if there is one on your laptop. It may be called something else and be buried somewhere under Tools or Advanced options. I had to do this twice in the last week as I’m testing many Linux distros and sometimes the motherboard freaks out.
I solved with this with resetting the BIOS factory default, but this isn’t a true solution. I think the true solution would be for KDE Linux to repair the EFI and not get stuck on fwupd-efi version 1.7
