After the Plasma 6.4 update see "An error occurred while taking a screenshot" when I use the Print Screen key to capture a screenshot in Spectacle, on multiple devices

Does anyone else see this? [1] It occured on both my laptop and desktop immediately after the update, and I don’t synchronise my configuration between them.

Not sure if it’s related (I don’t see errors in journal and spectacle doesn’t crash on me) but I’ve been experiencing issues around screenshots just not working at all (from today).

@eastbound7789, since my issue is related to how I attempt to capture them, what methods are you using? The keyboard, or GUI? What modes have been problematic, and what do you see when it fails? I also see no logs.

Both. I have a shortcut set up to take a regional screenshot but, nothing appears (normally the region selection shows up) and when I run the command spectacle -l in the terminal and select any screenshot button, nothing happens. The “preview” of the screenshot window does appear but with nothing inside it (like it couldn’t capture any data at all). Which is why I thought it was a different issue to the one you linked (there’s at least an error message in the bug report).

I have a video of what I mean (if it helps others understand): output

Screencasting/Recording with spectacle seems to work perfectly fine though, so it feels very much like a screenshot issue.

I just updated to 6.4 on Arch and no, Spectacle still works perfectly. I had it configured to not capture a screenshot directly when pressing PrtSc before but I wanted the new capture UI directly so I just reset the keybinds to defaults. Maybe that helps for you too?

@eastbound7789, that’s different to mine, and is definitely a bug. Report it.

@poljpocket, not quite: see bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=505845. This can be worked around by just using the buttons instead of the key press on the initial Spectacle GUI.
