I need to 100% silence this warning and always allow. I am so frustrated with this thing. It doesn’t persist between reboots, and none of the ‘fixes’ I can find work at all. I am losing even more hair on this one. I am disabled and I NEED to not have to get out of bed and trek across the whole house to accept a prompt that shouldn’t even be there without a way to silence it. This happens not just when I stream games from my desktop to my bedroom TV, but it also happens when I have my controller plugged in with USB directly into my main PC and want to, you know, use it.
Security isn’t even a concern for me since this is an Arch gaming VM that can’t be accessed AT ALL without my keys and physical access to my network, and that’s assuming you can also get into the server itself and know enough about my setup to start the correct VM remotely, since it’s headless. Long story short, I need this to go away and I just can’t, for the life of me, figure it out. I left Windows so I didn’t have to deal with all the hand-holding, constant UAC prompts, and this is looking mighty similar, IMHO. With some distros even starting to remove X11 entirely, lack of HDR, worse scaling (highly required), among a host of other reasons, I really don’t want to revert back to X11 because of this, but I don’t really think I have any other choices here. I toyed with the idea of switching to another DE that I can confirm doesn’t do this UAC-prompt-like behavior but I have mobility issues too, so once I get used to shortcuts and have KDE set up just right, I can get around quite well, so switching is far less than ideal for me.
Sorry if I come across as angry, I am just annoyed and frustrated here. Zero disrespect is intended, I just need a hand.
It is a very annoying prompt. It comes from Xwayland, which requests permission to emulate keyboard and mouse input for Steam… a feature that was badly designed, and happens on other desktops the same problematic way. Plasma doesn’t even know what app requested it (just that it’s some non-sandboxed app), and it requests permissiond quite often.
In 6.4, there will be an option in the X11 compatibility settings to just always allow X11 apps to emulate input. With that you can get rid of these prompts.
Well, at least this is reassuring there is going to be a proper and viable fix for this at some point soonish. It just seems odd to me I can’t SOMEHOW force it. Like, some config file somewhere. I have gotten used to there basically always being a config file somewhere I can make things happen if it isn’t exposed in the GUI since switching to Linux about a year and a half ago. I may just go and spark up the unstable repo and try the beta, because who doesn’t love breaking things entirely while trying to fix one much smaller thing. hehe
For what it’s worth, out of sheer curiosity, I enabled all the testing repos and KDE-unstable for my system and indeed the option is there and it seems to work… For my own sanity I am going to be leaving this as my setup for now but will be switching back to the normal Arch repos as soon as Plasma 6.4 gets it’s release. Thanks to Zamundaaa for making me aware of this upcoming feature.
This happens all the time with VMware too, super annoying, yeah.
Hopefully chromium will improve Wayland support and that will lead to Steam running on Wayland, eliminating a lot of legacy problems.
