I have two newly installed debian 13 with KDE. After a power outage the main desktop displayed the Akonadi_migration_agent at 33% for hours. Searching akonadi did not provide any info to help or seemed excessively hacky.
After several reboots it started asking for multiple passwords: router, kwallet, calendar maybe some others. Hitting cancel just reasked. I finally gave one a password but I don’t remember to which app. I went to work. When I came back I could use LibreOffice finally. BUT the computer would not connect to the router/internet.
What a hassle. Can I trust I’ll be able to connect and this won’t happen again. I can’t be locked out for hours or days because of a temporary electrical issue.
What’s going on?
I went camping for a week and so shut down my pc. Now I am back and ready to work.
I turned on the PC on 2026-05-22 at 15:50. It is now 2026-05-23 at 8:30. That is 16 hours and 40 minutes and akonadi is still at 33%.
Noticing occasional network messages, I verified that the network had not restarted. Manual selections of local options all resulted in “waiting for authorization”
Internet searches implicated the Kwallet subsystem and so I searched how to turn off the Kwallet subsystem. After turning it off and without rebooting, the network connected thus allowing akonadi to do it’s job.
Akonadi should report on why it was not able to work.
And with turning off Kwallet, other system components don’t work: networks keeps loosing connection and needs the password entered twice to reconnect. It doesn’t store the password in the key ring.
Basically KDE doesn’t seem to be able to work without a solid network connection. The use of a network extender is not perfect and KDE can’t handle the occasional reconnections. Thanks for the good work. Bye.
