I have an animation bug, it just doesn’t show when the kde panel is hidden. If the panel is visible, this bug does not exist.
What could be the problem?
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.8.0
Qt Version: 6.8.0
Kernel Version: 6.6.61-1-lts (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i7-6600U CPU @ 2.60GHz
Memory: 7.2 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 520
Manufacturer: LENOVO
Product Name: 20FAS5WR00
System Version: ThinkPad T460s
When I press minimize the app and there is no bar, there is no animation at all. But when there is a bar, then there is animation
Hi - folks will need some more information to be able to help out here:
- What operating system and type of system are you running Plasma on? This is easiest to get by going to KDE Plasma’s “Info Center” app, and clicking Copy Details in the top-right corner and pasting here
- What is the bug, exactly?
- What action are you taking? Ex. “moving the mouse over an app icon in the panel” or “clicking minimize on a window” or something like that
- What are you expecting to happen? Ex. “a tooltip should fade into view”, etc.
- What are you actually seeing happen? Ex. “a glitched graphic appears somewhere else”
Thanks,

Hmm, I can’t reproduce that on my system, but I’m using a pretty different setup (AMD CPU, Nvidia graphics, desktop PC, newer kernel).
Does this happen with all applications, regardless of how long they’re open? (Thinking of ruling out 495795 – Animation fail on some applications after being open for some time)
If you go to System Settings > Apps & Windows > Window Management > Desktop Effects, is the Squash or Magic Lamp effect selected there?
This happens with all programs. The squash animation is selected. Can I drop a video of the problem here somehow?
Hmm - unless someone else can think of a configuration-based reason that this could be happening with those system settings, this sounds like a bug that would be valid to submit via the KDE Bugzilla site (this link will go straight to entering a bug for KWin, the window manager that I believe is responsible for handling those animations).
If you have a screencast of this behavior, ideally showing how it looks with both panel types, that would be very helpful to attach, and file attachments can be done up to 4MB.

- ‘it’ doesn’t show.
Please tell me, what is ‘it’?
I don’t understand ‘press minimize the app’.
Generally I will use a keyboard shortcut (Meta_Down) or click a minimise button in the titlebar, or perhaps minimise the window via context menu on my taskbar.
Bug or User
You should consider creating a new USER, log in to a freshly created (default) profile and test to see if the same thing happens there.
I would like to try explaining it again:
I’ve noticed a consistent issue with the minimize animation across all applications. Whenever I click the minimize button, the expected animation only occurs when the taskbar is visible at the bottom of the screen. However, if the taskbar is hidden or auto-hidden, the animation fails to play, leaving the window abruptly minimized without any visual cues.
I tried to create a new user, but the error persisted
i can’t attach the file, there is no mp4 or webm format support. I uploaded the video to vimeo, but I can’t leave the thread either
Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.8.0
Qt Version: 6.8.0
Kernel Version: 6.11.8-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 15.0 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics
Product Name: B550M Steel Legend
Using Manjaro I have no such bug… I just tested it by moving Firefox down to autohide the taskbar, then opening Dolphin and hitting Meta+PgDn - whereby it ‘magic lamp’ animated down to the hidden taskbar.
If this problem exists with a new user, then there is a problem which is related either to your installation or your machine. I am confident that it is not a bug with Plasma, Arch or Manjaro unless it is an error peculiar to your hardware (which appears fairly ‘safe’ to me - meaning I’d blame your installation).
With a new USER, it is not a configuration issue, neither can it be cleared up by the normal means (e.g. as suggested to people upgrading from Plasma 5 to Plasma 6). However, other ‘gremlins’ can creep in to the mix if - for example - you have other desktops installed, or have previously installed KDE Plasma over another desktop and then either kept, or possibly even removed the other desktop after the fact.
I would pursue this in the Arch forum, as my knowledge isn’t sufficient to troubleshoot it…
You also seem to have completely omitted to include details of any relevant journalctl entries (which is a very basic skill required of any Arch user).
I found a way to reproduce the problem, press the PrtSc button on the keyboard and a window will pop up, try to minimize it. But the program panel must be hidden.
I used archinstall.
