I wonder if anyone on KDE Plasma is also using Opera Browser now and then… I’m facing an issue where all the windows of opera browser take their own slot on the taskbar-panel.
This happens only with opera, every other application stacks their windows on the same slot-Icon on taskbar as usual.
So, when I open any new window or Picture in Picture gets detached and opened, it takes its own slot on the taskbar.
I reported a bug about this to the Opera Browser’s Support and they said, They’ll discuss this issue with a more-linux person.
I just wondered if anyone is familiar with same issue but with different software or something, so I’m asking here and not reporting a bug to KDE, It’s probably something with Opera’s internal system as they use different stuff than normal applications, like they have their own window decorations and stuff…
I do not understand this stuff, but I can definitely tell that KDE is not where to report this, so I reported to Opera Team, and asking here for opinion on this issue
I used Opera for many years, it was a wonderful browser - I preferred it to Firefox in the early years…
However, in 2013 it changed… the company made a devastating fundamental change, from being unique to being another Chrome clone - so after that, Vivaldi would make more sense.
You may note that even the Opera executives left when the Chinese consortium took over in 2016 in protest to privacy and data collection fears (as it’s owned by the Chinese consortium, it’s subject to Chinese laws and has no right to privacy) and it’s them who founded Vivaldi which is the true successor to the original Opera.
Opera goes against the ‘Linux’ way of doing things by trying to be a complete ‘all in one package’ rather than just doing it’s own job.
Opera has very questionable Business practices and Privacy - it was found to operate a predatory lending businesses (predatory short-term loans in Africa and Asia).
Could it be that each window uses a different program name? Or maybe it’s like you found: the application is not providing a class nor a name for the program, so Kwin cannot group its windows. It seems definitely Opera’s fault.
Oh I didn’t know that, I use Opera as it was the best on my low end old ThinkPad, it runs smoother than Chrome and Firefox, somehow… I started with Opera GX on win 10 for it’s resource management system…
I always use two browsers, one for privacy focused uses and one just for YT twitch and random sites - the default browser…
I used to use chome for main important stuff first, and Firefox for normal web, then I moved main stuff to firefox and other to Opera.
Now I just downloaded Zen Browser, and it’s running much smoother than Opera. So I’m thinking about moving to Zen. I saw that it’s seen as Firefox in back-end… I’ll look if its secure or not… as now I’ve seen it’s smooth on the system.
