To my great surprise, older AppImage versions (22.x, 21.x or 20.x) of Kdenlive cannot be opened, it simply stops in the startup process. This is on my current Manjaro Linux. However, Debian has no problems with this.
The current versions work of course, is that normal? I thought the AppImages contain everything the program needs to run.
Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.7.0
Qt Version: 6.8.0
Kernel Version: 6.11.5-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 15.0 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics
Product Name: B550M Steel Legend
All the newer ones (after 18) run with my theming applied.
But as already mentioned in the forum, there’s a limit to how much can be included in an appimage… and partly why you can have an application of something as small as 7MB taking up 70MB in appimage form.
This is not so much a ‘Manjaro’ or ‘KDE’ issue as an appimage issue.
@micha you need to post specific reasons why you cannot open it - meaning specific errors and points of failure… because this stuff works fine over here (on Manjaro KDE).
Hi Ben,
I would like to give more info if I could. It is always the case that when I start an old AppImage, the start screen of Kdenlive appears and then the process hangs forever, I have to stop it with Htop, which is quite tedious. How can I start the start of an AppImage in the terminal to display the output? Is that possible? My desktop is XFCE.
Oh, one more question for you, @ben2talk I’m only interested in the AppImages because the version installed via Manjaro still has bugs. Start Kdenlive 24.08.1 or 24.08.2 and see if you can use an AVFilter. These are audio filters, e.g. Haas Stereo Enhancer or Deesser. I have been getting an error message for more than three months.
