Applications doesn't blink when receiving messages

Kubuntu and Plasma 6.1.5

I want to check if this is a bug in KDE or something else before reporting it.

Most of my messengers don’t blink in the taskbar when they receive messages (but they do receive notifications popups). Notification Badges are enabled.

One example is Gajim, both the flatpak and via apt installed versions show none.

Another is Skype. The flatpak version does not show any blinking, but the snap version actually does.

I tested skype’s flatpak and snap packages on Linux Mint and they both blink when a message is received.

Do you have any ideas on how to debug this further? Is this Problem with Flatpak? I tried enabling stuff with Flatseal, but i have not really a clue how “windows wants attention” works.

Cheers Polle

edit: Just installed KDE 5.26 on mint, and both flatpak and snap version of skype do blink. Perhaps an plasma 6 problem?

It’s up to the app whether it wants to blink the icon in the Task Manager. Telegram Desktop does, but Discord doesn’t. C’est la vie.

If an app doesn’t blink when packaged in a certain way, it means the app is trying to, but it getting blocked by the sandboxing because its manifest is missing a necessary permission. This would be something to report to the packagers.

I understand what you are saying, but in this case if the same flatpak package is blinking the icon on plasma 5 but not on plasma 6, hard to believe its just a problem of the package, plasma 6 or both.
