Applications failing to launch: bus error (core dumped)

I’m facing an issue wherein applications sporadically fail to launch. When I attempt to launch from the terminal, I receive Dbus Error (Core Dumped). It isn’t exclusively KDE applications that fail to launch, either. Sometimes plasmashell --replace seems to help, and sometimes a reboot is the only thing that will help.

It seems to be that the more instances of a program you open, the more likely the issue is to occur, and not just for additional instances of the same program. Here’s an example of the terminal output when attempting to launch Gwenview:

People are talking about this on reddit, so I don’t think it’s just me. No one on the Endeavour forum seems to have any answers, the Arch forum doesn’t accept posts from users of Arch derivatives, but I’m not seeing anything there either, and no one on Reddit seems to have any answers, so it seems like the KDE forum is my last hope!

Things I have tried:

  • btrfs-check
  • memtest86+
  • SMART status on all disks is fine / no media or data integrity errors

About my system:

  • EndeavourOS / Arch
  • AMD CPU and GPU
  • Plasma 6.0.4
  • QT 6.7.0
  • Wayland
  • Plenty of RAM

Updates:

  • The issue does occur for a new user account
  • When programs begin to fail to launch, the shutdown / restart buttons cease working in the Application Launcher

This will need a backtrace of the crash to debug it. See Guidelines and HOWTOs/Debugging/How to create useful crash reports - KDE Community Wiki

It appears that the issue has been resolved after an update or two (I say tentatively). If it occurs again I’ll generate a backtrace.
