Appstream appears to be missing

If I try to use the application launcher to search for apps and install them, it comes up with an error “Unable to create KIO worker. Unknown protocol ‘appstream’.” I get this to happen repeatedly even with fresh installs. the exact test case ive been using is: open the application launcher, search for “gparted”, click get or install button, error shows up afterward.

Came here searching for the same issue. Installed Neon yesterday.
