Does anybody know an audio player software that comes with the possibility to do A/B comparision of two very similar tracks? The way this works is that you select two tracks as a first step, and during playback you have a toggle to switch seamlessly between them. (It can be useful to e.g. to compare to slightly different mastered versions of a song to reveal subtle differences.)
It might be a semi-offtopic question here, because it doesn’t neccessarily have to be a KDE app.
While it is possible to do this with Audacity, it is rather cumbersome to set it up for each track, so I’m searching for a possibly more userfriendly alternative (web search didn’t find anything so far).
you might take a look at the packages offered by ubuntu studio which is geared toward sound production.
but i’ve dragged the occasional .mp3 into kdenlive and played with it, you can put two tracks in there and choose which one to listen to, but i don’t know if you can get to A/B ease or not … there are a lot features.
Ok, took a look at Kdenlive. Unfortunately, the audio tracks lack “Solo” buttons to seamlessly switch between them, and it seems to have no other improvement compared to Audacity…
Ardour (shipped with Ubuntu Studio) was another program that I had tried out yesterday. It was even more complex than Audacity, and quite crashy on my system (Flatpak version).
But it might be an interesting idea to check out if Ubuntu Studio offers something else I haven’t tried yet, thanks for the hint!
