automatic rotoscoping

Is it possible to apply automatic rotoscoping? Create automatic masks, etc.? And also put audio and video on the same timeline, like in After Effects? I don’t know if it works, but if it does, please tell me how.

Hi, and welcome to the forum and community,

The upcoming version 25.04 will have a function to remove the background. You can reverse the AI-generated mask to isolate objects in the foreground. The mask then follows the object/background. From that pov it is automatic rotoscoping, right?

yes sir, ty very much

Is this ONLY for background removal? Because the idea of click on background/foreground and apply effects without removing it sounds extremely appealing to have in kdenlive.

The process is a little more involved than “click on background” … 2D images don’t have an inherent ‘background’. You need to create a(n animated) mask, but this helps you automate that using edge/object detection. Once you have a mask, you can do anything you can do with a mask.

There’s more details here: Kdenlive new year preview - Kdenlive, and you can experiment with it in the nightly builds if you can’t wait for the 25.04 release. But yes, Exciting Stuff.
