Is there an option to set a background image for the view port? If not, i think it will be a good feature that dolphin is missing
I think if it’s implemented it must be accompanied with blur and transparency settings.
And maybe also the same for panels individually.
I don’t think it’s ‘missing’. I remember it WAS a feature some 20 years ago - maybe it was Nautilus - but after messing with it, I have to say that I think file managers work best with clean backgrounds in the end, and some things are best designed with less bloat.
That’s not a feature, that I would want to add.
Very niche use for no user gain, and in fact bad for users, hurting readability.
Dolphin isn’t a desktop.
There are some blur themes…

Dolphin is not 20 years old.
You might be talking about konqueror.
No, actually I started with Hardy Heron (Ubuntu) with Gnome2, I’m sure that there was an option to customise the background at that time, I tried out a few textures (like brown paper/sand). That was maybe 2008, so 18 years ago.
At that time KDE was a pig - it really only started to interest me about 8 years ago (maybe 9, I forget) after I skipped from Gnome2 to Cinnamon for a few years.
It’s really quite amazing to see how Plasma has pulled together and polished that pig of a desktop without sacrificing too much of the customisation.
This much is possible at the moment if one uses KWin Script Klear, Application Style Darkly along with Desktop Effects blur and translucency.
I wouldn’t like an image in my file manager ![]()
I’m not a fan of transparency without significant blur, or background ‘images’ per se, but you could design a nice texture and apply that in theory.
Overall, though, it’s just something that died out because it’s too much effort with no functional benefit.
