Better system tray (groups, rearrange, custom rules)

The idea is simple. Better system tray need a few new functions:

  1. To group icons by their type or manually. Below I show an example of what I mean.
  2. To rearrange their location.
  3. Functionality to make own rules for new icons. Like, “if A app download, add this to group B”.

And it has to be just one plasmoid.

I did what I wanted by what I can do right now. I made 3 different system trays and download panel colorizer:

Every single system tray has its own set up. Here is the example:

As you can see, the first system tray shows only the group “application status”, everything else is disabled. The second and the third work this way too.

It has a few issues:

  1. I need to rearrange all of this manually.
  2. If I install new app, it could show up in all 3 system trays and I need to fix it manually.

As I know, there aren’t any plasmoids with this function. It would be really great, if someone will make this. Sadly I’m newbie and too dumb to make this by myself.

If this ever becomes a native feature, I will be thrilled.

being able to drag system tray icons and arrange them into a logical order for the user’s needs has been a long standing feature request.

as well as having a way to toggle the status of multiple entries at the same time rather than individually.

your workaround is the best option atm… you can also add individual system tray widgets to a panel and use panel spacers etc to control their “grouping”, but yes, this would all be done manually.

a 3rd party developer might be bribed into coming up with such a thing if they had the skills an inclination (and time).

perhaps the developer of your panel colonizer would do it, they seem pretty well versed in the workings of panels.
