Bluetooth earphones not recognized

Lenovo P1 Gen 3; Fedora 43; Kernel 6.17.12-300; KDE Plasma 6.5.4.

Bluetooth is enabled. Earphones are paired and connected. They do not appear as an output (nor as an input) option under Settings/Sound.

The BT service is presumably working fine, because my BT mouse has had no problem.

I have rebooted, and it appears to make no difference. I’ve turned BT off and on. The earphones work fine with other devices.

Where do I look next? What could be the problem? On a good day I’m at advanced beginner level on Linux.

The forum errors out if I try to include a link here, but: there’s another post on a similar issue, which has a workaround and also points to a blog piece on f34, but I’m hesitant to go down either path because the media aspects of f43 appear to be much developed over f34, and, as noted, BT is working fine for the mouse.

If you are using pulseaudio, then I would look at pavucontrol. I recently had a case where a BT speaker connected to BT just fine, but always connected as disabled, so I needed to enable it on the Configuration tab of the app and then confirm on the Output tab that my audio application was actually using it instead of the laptop speakers.
