Hi! I was helping a friend install arch a few days ago, and for some inexplicable reason, his /tmp/ folder filled up after accessing an SMB share. i decided to keep an eye on my /tmp/ directory and discovered that accessing folders with images or video files over an SMB share makes dolphin cache these in /tmp/. i asked about this in the KDE user help matrix room and someone independent of me is able to reproduce this.
Steps to reproduce:
-
set “Remote Storage” preview size in dolphin to something above 0MiB, 40 in my case
-
access an SMB share in dolphin by going to smb://ip/sharename
-
open a folder with a large amount of images
-
watch as /tmp gets filled up with thumbnails
this only appears to happen with SMB shares in my testing, this does not happen with local files which are correctly cached in ~/.cache
i’m running KDE 6.3.3 on linux 6.13.7-arch1-1.
