Calamares Crash Issue During KDE Neon Installation

Hello,

I’m currently trying to install KDE Neon (stable version: 20250504), but I’m facing a major issue when launching the Calamares installer. When I start the installer, it crashes abruptly, and I cannot proceed with the installation. Below are the error messages I get in the terminal when I run sudo calamares:

neon@neon:~$ sudo calamares

I’m fairly new to Linux, so I apologize in advance if I’m making a beginner mistake in my approach.

Here’s some additional information that might be useful:

  • Distribution used: KDE Neon (stable version 20250504).
  • Hardware: My system has two SSDs, one with Windows and another one where I want to install KDE Neon.
  • Setup: I’m trying to install KDE Neon on a specific SSD (not the Windows SSD), with a bootable USB stick containing the KDE Neon ISO.

I really appreciate any help or suggestions on resolving this problem!

And a few bug reports I missed.

A fix is in the pipeline that hopefully takes care of both calamares and KDE Partition Manager crashes.

If the drive is unpartitoned, maybe try formatting it in Windows or a live Linux session as a workaround, and also try checking your drives for errors.

I am having exactly the same Calamares issue on my Dell Latitude 5590 :sad_but_relieved_face:

I’m having more of less the same issue with Calamares on an old Asus G73JW. Unexpected crash. Signal: Segmentation Fault (11). This is the stable-ish Neon downloaded a couple of days ago. Like another reporter this machine has two SSDs. Both are formatted. I was intending to install Neon on the second one which is just data but I never get close to making any choices.

same issue here, but on KDE Neon mobile- the darn thing works like a charm on my tablet with the exception that it can’t be installed! :frowning: , mind I used the ISO with date: 20250504 , not sure if i need to wait for a newer version of that ..? thx !

Calamares crash even with newer (20250511) Neon mobile ISO.

It is weird that the crash is happening when I m trying to install on a tablet, but works under … VirtualBox !

oops! the issue is because the display scaling !! if I slide it from 145 to 100% then the installer
(calamares) does not crash!
