Can previews (in Dolphin) be disabled when they're too small to be of use?

Problem

Currently, I have my preview preferences set as the undermentioned screenshot depicts:

Although I’d like having a simple toggle to enable or disable them, having all options individually enabled works incredibly well in the Icons view. However, it’s actually an annoyance in Compact and Details, because the icons which it replaces would alternatively provide a more obvious distinction between file types than the incredibly small - and consequently useless - previews do.

Solution

Can this be disabled for those views, or am I forced to have previews either enabled or disabled in all views?

Rationale

Part of why I ask is:

  1. Enough options exist that enabling and disabling them when I wish to switch views in dolphin is tiresome.
  2. Disabling them via this GUI appears to disable them elsewhere, like in the gwenview notification preview for a spectacle screenshot.

Beware This will be low priority while implementing this is not simple.

There is a shortcut, you can have buttons to your toolbar to workaround this and this is the first time I see a user wanting this, so my bet is there aren’t many.
The enabled thumbnails setting is already tied to the current folder view properties when you view settings per-folder.
And in next release of dolphin, .directory files will be history (322922 – Dolphin should not store .directory files inside the actual directory to avoid cluttering and polluting the filesystem; should instead store this data in extended attributes) when using this setting.

@meven, can you elaborate on this?

Currently, my view preferences don’t appear to alter per directory. I’m using dolphin-24.08.2-1.fc40.x86_64.

I’ve certainly no desire to have them do so, so this appears advantageous. Do you mention this because it should make this easier to implement (if it’s not already possible)?

@meven, I have filed an enhancement at 495637 – Permit disabling previews at sizes below a threshold and/or in views. Thank you. Should I switch this post to Brainstorm?
