Tagging media with Events, Persons, Places it occurred to me that the “NONE” state seems ambivalent.
Example:
I’d like to be able to distinguish between media which have explicitly been tagged as containing NO persons, and photo’s which I have not tagged yet (which may contain persons).
As far as I have found out this does not seem to be possible?
Not sure if I’m being clear enough, but what I mean is, the state (if I try to think about it) is either:
unset
“No person” or “None”, or
<name of a person>
Workaround would be to add something like “no person” as if it were a name, I guess, but before I do that, I’d like to know if perhaps I am missing something?
Short answer: your workaround is perfectly valid. For practical reasons I do it the other way round, though.
Longer answer:
Personally, I use a “#others” tag that I use to say that there are no persons in addition to those who I tagged.
E.g. I have two photos, one being a selfie of me and my wife, and the other being a photo of me and my wife in a crowd. Adding the tag “#other” to the later photo allows me to search for photos that show only me and my wife by browsing People/me → People/my wife → People/No other.
Also, this allows me to add this tag to photos containing random people e.g. in front of some building that I wanted to photograph. It is obviously very subjective where to draw the line here: does a tiny person somewhere in the background count? Only you can answer this question.
Another way to achieve a similar goal could be to have a “Keywords” or “Classification” category and add tags like “Portrait”, “Group photo”, “Crowd”, “Architecture” , and “Landscape photography” instead.
That way, I would find the photo of the example above by browsing People/me → People/my wife → Classification/Portrait.
Finding photos that you have not tagged yet is perfectly possible: KPhotoAlbum assigns each image an untagged tag. One you annotate the image and press “OK” in the annotation dialog, this tag is removed automatically. Closing the dialog using “Continue later…” will save the tags but not remove the untagged tag.
I hoped that KPhotoAlbum does assign each image an untagged tag, but in that case I don’t understand why the “untagged image button” shows no images, as mentioned here:
