System: Fedora 44 Kinoite
I was trying to make a standard user through the KDE user settings, but, despite me setting up the password without no errors, Plasma Login Manager did not accept my password to login. Then I tried su to switch to it and it failed to authenticate. I tried to change the password with passwd and it was able to change it successfully, which had led me to think that it is a bug, did anyone encounter a similar issue or am I doing something wrong?
What exactly did you do where? Add screenshots to make it clear.
I was referring to the user creation feature through KDE settings, but, after some testing, realized that the issue appears to be Fedora based, sorry if I wasted anyone’s time.
Today I had two issues like this.
The first issue was this morning; I changed my password and I was not able to authenticate update through Konsole so I thought I might need to reboot so I did and was unable to log back in. I checked all the permutations I could think of repeatedly. It was a set of numbers and I used a familiar pattern. I eventually, with great trouble, changed it using a live USB.
The second issue was this afternoon; I decided to setup a second admin to give me options should something like this happen again. But I am yet to be able to log into it. That is from the lock screen accessed from the main user. I looked at the password and added it to my vault before confirming the account creation. Feels like there is something wrong here.
Additionally after trying to log into the new account I decided to go back to my other account and the entire OS froze. I left it for a while but it never recovered. I just realised I didn’t try a full restart.
Just to add. I did a full restart and I was not able to login. After that using my main account I changed the password to exactly the same thing and it works fine. I thought to experiment but all new account of various types all worked fine.
