Cannot type a capital 'C' using Shift in Plasma 6.7

  1. Caps lock —> C works
  2. No keyboard shortcut for shift+c is set
  3. shift + any other letter than C works
  4. “Show popup when holding a key” is unchecked and turned OFF.
  5. “Virtual keyboard” is set to NONE

Plasma version: 6.7

Unlikely, but check your system shortcuts to see if you have SHIFT+C set.

does this happen with a new user acct as well?

This looks like a fun thing to diagnose.
Try:

  • A different keyboard
  • Left Shift key / Right Shift key
  • List out what all programs you tried typing ‘C’ in
  • Try switching to tty (Ctrl+Alt+F3 or other ‘Fn’) and typing ‘C’ in there

Also, need to know your distro.
I am unable to reproduce this on 6.7.4 as of now.

  • Also you can try using “Show Me The Key” to know if something is getting invoked.

Generally, you’d need to know something about what you did with your machine though - we’re sadly in the dark here.

Could be some kind of input method conflict (I had fun with fcitx5 in the past).

Otherwise it could be keys failing or clashing shortcuts.

But we remain convinced it’s likely something unique to the OP.

I’ve had a similar intermittent issue after recent updates but when trying to type “!”. Logging out/restarting Plasma resolves it but I haven’t been able to determine where the issue is coming from.

Started occurring after testing branch updates on Manjaro KDE Plasma from the 24th August 2026.
