Can't remove custom KDE entries

And before you ask, yes I deleted…
~/.local/share/applications
~/.config KDE files
~/.config/menus
Baloo indexes
KDE cache

I also checked /usr/share/applications and searched for file key words for applications kdemenu editor might’ve been finding. I tried clicking the hidden button, but it in fact did not hide itself…

This started happening after I moved my home directory to a partition to a NVME inside my machine. Since then, there has been custom entries I once added before, I now can no longer remove. Everytime I try to remove it, KDE menu doesn’t reflect the change and the links still exist in the menu. KDE menu also reverts back to how it was before I attempted to delete the entries.
Note, that I cannot add entries either.

Then when I right click the rather stubborn menu entry to “edit application” it points to a 0 byte file that has been deleted and no longer exists. I tried more things like replacing the dead links with the .desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications and it revealed that it was reusing the same old executing launch parameters before I deleted the file. It’s a long story and gets even more confusing beyondst that point.

Hi opercessen

Sounds like you created a monster by moving your home directory. Why not just move it back and try a different way? You made a backup, right?

I avoid troubleshooting problems by restoring from a backup instead of trying to fix things. Can of worms.

You do not give any info about your OS other than KDE, which is just a desktop environment and is at the mercy of the operating system.

Save yourself some grief and start over, make incremental backups and change a few things at a time. Document your steps so you know where you are and where you want to be.

Thanks for your response! And yeah, I’m planning to just do a fresh install.

And the thing being, I didn’t even move the location of the home directory. I just mounted it to a different drive.

Does it help to run kbuildsycoca6?
