Since one of recent builds (around 3 days ago) I am not able to update my system via Discover anymore. It displays the update, but then immediately spits out “Sender is not authorized to send message”. Updating via updatectl runs fine. WTF?

The same error on a clean installation.
This is a known issue right now. systemd-260 broke it, intentionally! ![]()
We’re working on adapting Discover to the changes in systemd.
In the meantime, updatectl update still works.

Now I can’t update even via updatectl. First, it tried to update and then displayed “Permission denied”, then it started displaying “Failed to get current version for ‘host’: Protocol error”. How to fix this?
PS, updatectl vacuum and immediately updatectl update worked (but why?).
Bugs in Systemd, unfortunately. The one you just experienced looks a lot like updatectl stuck showing "Failed to get current version for 'host': Protocol error" · Issue #41303 · systemd/systemd · GitHub.
