Card Reader "Try to fix"

Hi ! My different card-readers give me an error “try to fix” instead of mounting and opening.

But that is NOT everytime i plug in a card. Maybe every 3rd or 4th time.

Can you tell me what kind of fault that is ?

cheers Alex,

No. You need to do more work to diagnose this yourself.

Could be hardware (readers) or the cards… or even just a dodgy connection. It’s also common for incorrect removal to cause problems…

It sounds odd that you seem to have ‘different card readers’ almost as if you have a collection.

Can you tell my how to diagnose this ?

Man, there are a lot of different cards out there …

To diagnose the cards, I’d want to try other machines, or maybe a dedicated USB connected card reader. If the cards are fine, then the hardware’s borked.

You suggested that this is intermittent - maybe every 3rd or 4th time, which reminded me of the time I had to open up my old (First edition) iphone SE and try to fix an intermittent charge port failure.

Wherever you have mechanics, there’s scope for mechanical failure - cracked or otherwise weakened electrical joints etc.

Sometimes a bit of pressure can fix the issue (but not the cause).

Thanks Ben ! I am shure this is a kde bug, as the the hardware work well on the camera side…

This just means that the disk widget detected filesystem errors on the card.

Filesystem errors don’t necessarily prevent it from working, at least right now. But they can build up over time and break it. You should click “Fix it.”

If you click “Fix it” every time it asks you to, and the issue keeps coming back, then there are a few primary options for what might be going on:

  • The card hardware is dying
  • The physical connection between the card reader and whatever it’s connected to is dodgy
  • The card’s physical connection to the reader is dodgy
  • Something you’re doing to the card while it’s plugged in is bad for it
  • You’re removing the card while it’s still finalizing writing data

Good luck figuring it out!
