Changing audio volume is very buggy (multiple issues)

  • If you hover over the audio/sound icon, and then scroll your mouse wheel fast, it makes a distortion sound.

  • If you click on audio/sound icon, and then scroll your mouse wheel on the chosen sound output device slider, it doesn’t make any sound at all or that level animation it shows on the slider when it detects sound.

if you change audio by clicking your mouse button instead of using the mouse wheel, it works fine.

Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora Linux 41
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.12.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2

It does if you scroll too fast, yes. I never noticed this, with my old keyboard I had volume buttons.

With the new one I have a round KNOB which I just don’t turn that fast.

Incidentally, you’re not allowed to post the word KNOB in the KDE forum - I wonder what brought this about?

An error occurred: Sorry, you can't post the word 'kn@b'; it's not allowed.

Perhaps you should try picking a shorter sound if you need faster scrolling - otherwise just turn off the annoying feedback sound… I can recreate the ‘effect’ of distortion if you roll the wheel faster because it is trying to play an audio file, which is being interrupted by the next one if it is not short enough.

You can make or use your own notification sounds if you really need to keep it.

Windows sound effect file is also long, but iirc it doesn’t have that issue?

like every rule ever, someone was a proper KNOBHEAD and so now we gotta make a rule.

turning off the popping sound would be my first thought, just to rule out an sync issues

if it still makes a noise then it’s nothing to do with the OS and likely a hardware thing.

i don’t know if fedora uses pluseaudio or pipewire but neither are esp known for their low latency, so maybe moving to JACK would make a difference in playing the popping sound.

my issue is lag in responding to the KNOB on my keyboard, and sometimes it even goes the wrong way at first.

you ever notice that with your KNOB?

It uses pipewire.

My KNOB

it’s not only bigger than yours, but works really well… I feel lucky, I cannot percieve any change between USB, 2.4 or Bluetooth.
