Changing the Desktop folder Location breaks the Desktop

Hello,
with Activities I decided to make separate Folder for each Desktop. I created folders in the Home Directory of user like ~/Desktop_Games and ~/Desktop_Work

My workflow requires the “application.desktop” files to start applications, in Main/Deafult Desktop everything works fine. On the Desktops with changed folders it not only is diplayed incorectly with the ‘.desktop’ extension, it asks what to do with that file instead of simply running it.

There is no option I found, and I do looked around to make it work normally.
The same issue is if you try run the .desktop files from the Dolphin of from Widget ‘Folder View’.
With obviously is some form of a bug, as you can choose the Folder for Desktop and it does not act as Desktop.

So where is that option hidden, for it to work normally?

Cheers
Rust

plasma only auto-trusts .desktop files on the real XDG Desktop folder. custom activity folders act like a normal dir so it shows the extension and asks what to open with.

for me:
-chmod +x ~/Desktop_Games/*.desktop
-then in dolphin right click → Allow Launching
(or: gio set ~/Desktop_Games/whatever.desktop metadata::trusted true)
-do that once per .desktop

folder view widget has the same trust check. once Allow Launching is set it should stick.

It does not work, even with execution right and the Allow Launching it does not work in Dolphin nor in Desktop nor in Widget.

I’m using Cachy Os if that matters.

So how can I make ‘Manual-trust’ the whole custom desktop folder? That would be simplest and most robust solution.

Cannot edit as 15 minutes is apparently to long ago.

Ok, it was Dolphin configuration to ‘Always Ask’ for Execution, with for some reason also affects Desktop and Folder Widget with is totally counterintuitive. So I managed to be able to run them.

But that does not change the fact that they still display ‘.desktop’ extension, and additional desktops don’t act as expected. So the question is how to set whole folder to trusted.

My guess is that the “official” desktop is served through the desktop:/ protocol while the others are just folder.

This would probably need to be handled on a different level than simply permission.

Maybe the desktop:/ protocol could be made activity-aware.
On the other hand maybe the folder view could treat is configured folder differently regardless of whether it is an on-disk folder or served through the protocol.

You could check if there is a bug report or similar for that on bugs.kde.org
