I am coming from Windows and really like KDE Plasma as it looks like Windows 10/11, but also have a great lot of new functionality versus the former and I would like to never come back to Windows again.
But one thing I really miss is the ability to close an open window by double-clicking the window icon.
When single clicking the icon, the window menu appears with Minimize, Maximize, Close etc, but when double-clicking, nothing happens.
Can I configure the option to close the window on double-click exactly how Windows behave?
The only problem with this solution is that now actually using the menu gets really annoying, because the gesture to open it turns into āpress and holdā for no apparent reason (and the hold threshold feels really long). I guess you can still do a right click, though.
Yes, I noticed that as well, I donāt know why it has to be this way and not keep the single click for opening the menu, but right click works just as fast, so I would not be bothered.
never used that on windows, tried this alternative⦠going back to the default.
there is a perfectly good close button on the other corner and if you need to have the close button on the upper left for some reason, you can put it there.
Yes, of course I know there is an X button on the right side of the window, but the reason I want this functionality is that
Windows did not have the original X button to close the window, originally this double-clicking was the only option. Windows 95 was the first to introduce the X button, so I am just used to it being this way.
More importantly, sometimes I have a window that extends out of the monitor area and the X is not visible. I want to have this quick option to close the window instead.
I tend to move the mouse as little as I need to, so if the mouse is on the left of the window I want to close, I would not move the mouse to the right of the window to click on X, but I would just double click the window icon to close it.
Here you can set āTitlebar Actionsā so thereās no need to focus an icon⦠Doubleclick can maximise, close, or lower, or any number of alternative actions.
Task Manager settings:
ā Middle clicking an icon can close that window or group.
If thereās more than one open, then a popup shows previews so you can mouse over one and middle click that to close it.
Overall Iām struggling to think why you have a problem - except that you think Plasma should exactly replicate something from Windows - despite having far more detailed settings and options available⦠Sorry if I missed your point.
It is a strange habit of Windows users to be lazy to use the mouse, but also very reluctant to use the keyboardā¦
This is something I miss with āeasystrokeā on X11 - the ability to close a window by holding the RMB and drawing an āXā anywhere on the screen - weāll have to wait for the rebirth of the mouse gestures.
It is my preference not to have to move the mouse to aim at targets for clicking (I love mouse gestures, I dislike icons).
Bonus Item
CtrlShiftEsc
So hopefully youāll find that itās actually better⦠come back if youāre happy and mark it
Thanks for the long post, but the issue is already solved. The answer that I was looking for is the āClose windows by double-clicking the menu buttonā option.
I believe double-click to close was enabled by default for a long time until it just stopped working. I never thought to look under Window Decorations, I would have expected an option (if any) to be under General Behavior.
