I spent a good deal of time going through the Manual but did not find an answer to the difference between Color Clip and Image Clips when setting Default Durations.
Any assistance greatly appreciated!

Interesting. The doc page for Misc settings seems outdated (14 arrows but only 12 sections).
Anyways, Color clips are colored backgrounds generated by Kdenlive through Media > Add Media > Add Color Clip, while Image clips are still images imported into Kdenlive (e.g. drag and drop a .png into your project bin).
