Concerned about a hateful post on the mailing list

I found this video linked on Reddit: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=00EPajdGrdY as well as this mailing list link: No X under social media.

I’m wondering if this is an “official” KDE position or just one guy on the mailing list voicing his (hateful and divisive) opinion?

I’m not asking for KDE to have an active account on X (Mastodon is fitting the spirit of open source better anyway) but I previously had the impression that KDE was relatively free of politics and leftist “activism”. That it was about creating a great desktop for Linux/Unix and supporting FOSS projects and welcoming everyone, rather than some communist BS.

I have been considering cancelling my monthly donations but that might be an overreaction in case this is just a random guy pretending to speak for KDE.

speaking strictly for myself, you need to base your decision to donate or not to donate on your own choices and standards.

personally, i do not see any reason for KDE to be active on x.com given it’s change of ownership and subsequent fall into hate and division as it has lost a great many sponsors and posters since then who do not want be affiliated with the content there.

i agree that mastadon is a better fit (tho with far less reach, unfortunately).

that said, i would hope you find the KDE project still worthy of your donation, regardless of which platforms it chooses to be active on.

He’s not a random person, that’s our marketing consultant himself.

I don’t know where you got the idea that being openly against a specific hate group is some kind of “communist BS” but I know exactly where this thread is going so I’m going to lock it preemptively.

There isn’t an actual discussion to be had here: we don’t want an account on X, so what of it? You are more than welcome to cancel your monthly donations if you don’t agree with our not-even-close-to-divisive political stance in this specific case.
