Create profiles for tablet settings

I’m using a drawing tablet and I have meticulously set the portion of the screen mapped to the tablet. But sometimes, I want to use the whole screen.

So having two profiles for each settings would be nice.

no profile switch in the kde drawing tablet kcm yet for me

id just:
-run opentabletdriver and save two presets (cropped map + full screen)
-or hotkey a couple xsetwacom MapToOutput / Area lines

At least let me type in the number of the area.

Have you tried this in both Wayland and X11 sessions? The settings available in Wayland are not the same in X11 at the moment.

Interesting.

It does show different settings. And instead of Drawing Tablet, it’s called Graphical Tablet. But any of the tabs there will crash System Settings.

Wayland:

X11:

I’m currently in a Plasma X11 session, and the tabs don’t crash system settings for me. Does this happen in both Wayland and X11?

What’s your distro? You can show it by running kinfo.

I’m on Arch Linux… btw

The tabs in x11 would always crash but none of the buttons in Wayland would crash it.

Out of curiosity, I decided to run of commands.

On Wayland, if I run kcmshell6 kcm_tablet, it launches the tablet settings. But running kcmshell6 kcm_wacomtablet run a different tablet settings, and it can’t find any tablets.

On X11, kcmshell6 kcm_tablet, it says it couldn’t find any devices. But on kcmshell6 kcm_wacomtablet, it does.

So, this one is the kcmshell6 kcm_tablet

And this one is the kcmshell6 kcm_wacomtablet

Strange. I am also on Arch and it doesn’t crash for me. This system is older, so I stick to X11 for proper compatibility (something I won’t have a choice in when KDE 6.8 releases).

Anyway, it’s weird that it crashes for you. Are you by any chance using Manjaro, when you say you use Arch? I’m on Archcraft to be specific.

Lastly, yeah, image one is KDE Wayland’s implementation of tablet settings, and image 2 is their old implementation that was and is present in KDE X11. And in this case, the X11 implementation is better and more feature-rich, IMHO.

No. It’s just Arch Linux.

This shouldn’t make a difference, but it might. Try switching to the current kernel.
Sometimes, crashes, bugs, speed, etc. are based on the kernel being used.

Operating System: Archcraft
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.30.0
Qt Version: 6.11.2
Kernel Version: 7.2.7-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz
Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15.3 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor 1: Intel® HD Graphics 630
Graphics Processor 2: Quadro P3000
Manufacturer: LENOVO
Product Name: 20HKCTO1WW
System Version: ThinkPad P71

kcm_wacomtablet crashing systemsettings on x11 for me was a busted kcm package once.

id try:

-sudo pacman -Syu kcm-wacomtablet xf86-input-wacom
-kcmshell6 kcm_wacomtablet
-coredumpctl info -1 | head -80

opentabletdriver still does the two map profiles while that kcm is dead

Well, I actually found a solution.
Just edit the config file $HOME/.config/kcminputrc directly and then restart.

I just wish I don’t have to restart just to apply the edited config file.

Something to consider when I no longer have the choice between Wayland and X11.
Thanks.

Something I was thinking to myself earlier when I rebooted after finally getting the Mullvad VPN update from the repos is that many times when a reboot is “required”, all we really need to do is logout, switch to TTY, restart systemd services, then log back in.

But that’s only sometimes, of course.
