Apparently KDEnlive lacks crossfading of clips in the multicam tool. It would be convenient to have the ability to adjust the duration of crossfading. However, implementation of this feature might require the creation of a new track containing only the segments that are retained in the mix by the Multicam tool, otherwise the fades might be rather messy.
I normally keep the lower track locked so it won’t be lifted when cuts are made, but this is probably causing the messiness in the fades.
Any suggestions are welcome. Cheers,
Hi, and welcome to the forum and community.
This sounds like a reasonable function to have, so I suggest you create a [Feature Request] in the official bug tracker.
Until then you need to move all the segments into one of the tracks and then double click the line where the clips touch to insert a crossfade (aka Mix, aka same-track-transition).
Hello Berndmj, Thank you for the suggestion. I have done as you propose.
Meanwhile, concerning your workaround proposal. I have been attempting to do that, but I have not had any success copying segments from one track to the other to overwrite the video there. Note that I kept the first track locked so that it would not be sliced up in case I had to redo a lot of cuts. Would you mind giving me a tip as to how to move the segments into the other track? Thank.
In my test I used 9 tracks for 9 different videos, cut it with the multicam tool, and then used track V1 as destination for the different cuts. I could have created a new track (say, V10) to collect all the cuts but had V1 available. I moved the cuts one by one (yes, I know this is tedious) into V1, and then added the cross-fade one by one.
Tedious indeed! Well, I can’t seem to get the overwrite copy to work so I guess that’s the only solution. Did you try adding crossfade to the whole timeline? Cheers
Not sure what you mean by that, but a transition cannot be applied to a video track or on Master. Unfortunately, you have to add the crossfade to every clip. The easiest is to simply double click where to clips meet.
