I have been using X11 only because my understanding is that Wayland doesn’t support CUDA. Now, Plasma has announced it will stop support of X11. Does anybody know what the status is of CUDA + Wayland? If somebody has written about this, I have been unable to find it.
The announcement said that support for X11 will continue through the Plasma 6 series, so for a quite a number of years longer.
Also, given that CUDA is Nvidia’s computational framework, I would expect this to work as long as their drivers are installed, regardless of display system and even if there is no display at all.
I can tell you that several CUDA applications like Davinci Resolve, Blender and some AI stuff run just fine for me in the Wayland session.
Where did you get the idea that CUDA doesn’t support Wayland or vice versa?
I haven’t read or heard anything about that ever and since CUDA doesn’t even interface with the display server in any way I don’t know a technical reason why it wouldn’t work either.
