Custom quick tile movement between monitors

I’m trying to set up custom quick tile to work with keyboard shortcuts in KDE plasma 6.5.4 since the default quick tile doesn’t fit my needs at all and after setting up my zones with meta+t and moving the meta+arrows shortcuts to custom quick tile instead of quick tile, it seems the windows refuse to move between monitors.

Everything works great to move a window from the zones in the same monitor, but if I do the bottom or top shortcuts(my 2 monitors are stacked vertically), nothing happens. Same thing if I try to move a window further than the edge of the monitor, in case it didn’t respect the position set for the monitors and moving right would go to the bottom monitor or something like that.

So I was wondering if this is intended, not implemented yet or a bug and if there was a way around it.

hi, welcome.

first some clarification: there are two independent tiling systems in plasma

quick tile which tiles a window to an edge or corner with successive use of the shortcuts

custom tile which makes use of the meta+T tiling zones in the editor, and use of shift when dragging a window

they do not interact on my version of kwin and x11.

that said, i can confirm on plasma 5 that the kwin Move Window shortcuts have issues with moving between monitors.

i can start a window on the right monitor and move it left and with the first use of the shortcut it will move to the left edge of the current monitor, then with each additional use it will move to the right edge of any open windows on the left monitor, and then finally to the left edge of the left monitor… but will not warp around to the right monitor like quick tiles do.

however when i try to to do this with a window starting on the left monitor and going right, it will only move as far as the right edge of the right monitor and will not proceed to the left monitor at all…i can imagine the same inconsistencies between moving up and down with vertically stacked monitors.

this is worthy of a report at bugs.kde.org

I called it custom quick tile because that’s the exact name of the setting for the keyboard shortcut(quick tile is basically the same name but without custom first so maybe they reused the string?) and I’ve seen many different names for it so I wasn’t sure which one was the real official one, but I am talking about the meta+t configurable one.

I did forget to mention I was using wayland.

Sounds like it’s supposed to move between monitors since you’re having more luck than me and it does travel between them for you(no matter the direction or the starting point, it’ll only move inside the same monitor for me) so I’ll make a bug report for it.
