Default folder icons seem corrupted

Hi, this is a minor issue but it makes more difficult for me look for the right folder in Dolphin. The problem is the folders are painted in black and this happens to all the folders depicted with the default icon + symbols to distinguish them.

My distribution is Debian/Sid
KDE Plasma 5.27.11
Qt version: 5.15.13
KDE Frameworks: 5.115.0

usually returning everything to breeze will solve theming issues like this.

Hi did it! I changed theme, reset my configuration and tried with a brand new user too but the black icon it’s still there.
If I change the icon appearance using the properties feature, the default icon looks good but once applied it turns black, choosing every other icon (blue, red, cyan , yellow) works nicely.

Could be some bug. But since you’re on 5-ish, you could try some folder color servicemenu. For example https://store.kde.org/p/998450. There might be others, can’t remember.
Looks like:

Nice hint. You have a pretty beautiful desktop.

I also just noticed this starting yesterday on Debian Testing, so am going to guess it’s a bug.
Same Plasma/QT/Frameworks versions as you.

So it’s a Debian thing…
Thank you

It’s a Sid thing. Doesn’t happen on stable.

Many things don’t happen in stable!

In trixie, the package “breeze-icon-theme” is a dummy transitional package to “kf6-breeze-icon-theme”. So, trixie is running Plasma 5 with icons for Plasma 6.

The SVG files for the folder icons use different names for the color classes (“ColorScheme-Highlight” in Plasma 5, and “ColorScheme-Accent” in Plasma 6).

I don’t know for sure, but my guess is that the DE overrides those particular color class names (so the user’s chosen accent color is reflected in the folder icons), and if there’s a mismatch in the names you get #000000.

Either way, I suspect it was just a not-great idea to move to a KF6 icon theme while the rest of the DE is still held back on 5.

@dzon

Have you described your setup anywhere? Looks quite nice indeed. What’s that top left button?

Plasma theme?

Icons theme?

It’s covered here and there on discuss. Everything is custom. It’s lightly/klassy. Custom kvantum for certain apps. Matching colorschemes. Custom plasma. Custom icons. Custom…pretty much everything. You might have a look at the “share your desktop” department.

So I checked my “guess” above, and it’s totally wrong.

(On my trixie/unstable system, I replaced all the SVG files for the folder icons with those from the bookworm/stable package. No change. Still completely black icons.)

However, switching from a Wayland session to an X11 session avoids the issue. In an X11 Plasma session, folder icons reflect the user’s chosen highlight color as expected.
