Default rendering settings for .mp4..?

hello

i’m new to kdenlive…
i’ve a question…
what are the default options for mp4 rendering so i know that my video will be with the correct settings…? i’m a bit confused…
except for the fact that there is no sound… do you find any problem with the video i’ve rendered…
i just want to be sure it is ok…
wait a moment… how can i add a link to my video?
thanks!!

Hi, and welcome to the forum and community.

You define the dimensions, frame rate, and aspect ratio of the final video with the selected project profile. There are several profiles (or presets) available by default, but you can create your own from scratch or by using an existing one and modifying the parameters.

The render profile (or preset) determines things like the codec (e.g. h264), bit rate (through the quality slider), and output format (e.g. mp4). You can also specify whether the video should be rendered with different dimensions.

Both, project and render profiles can be looked at, so that is where you check whether your

video will be with the correct settings.

If there is no audio in the final video check whether (i) you have selected Audio in the render dialog window, (ii) there is an audio track in the timeline, (iii) the audio track has an audio clip in it, and (iv) neither the track nor the clip are muted.

As far as posting a link to a video is concerned, you need to have posted several times here before that ability is enabled for your user account. Until then you could simply post the URL so ppl can copy that into a browser …

thank you…

  1. i’ve saved a new profile with audio unchecked… but when i try to use the profile the audio box returns…
  2. so the default profiles are reset every time? but the saved ones should not reset?

Hmm, that is interesting. I haven’t checked that, and IMHO the settings in the profile should take precedence. Perhaps you open a bug report for further and more detailed investigation.

I didn’t think whether or not audio was ‘enabled’ was part of the profile - just which codec (and options for it) should be used if there are audio tracks to render.

For some options (eg. number of channels and sample rate) it can take them from the original source or force them to a fixed value - but at the profile definition level whether or not there is audio just depends on whether the timeline has audio tracks. If you want to disable audio when the timeline has it, that is a rendering time selection. If you don’t want that to default to on, I guess don’t have audio tracks in the project timeline?

But that said, I’m not really clear on what the OP’s definition of ‘correct’ is here either

In reading your post again and taking @Ron’s answer into account, it occurred to me that you may have referred to the Audio check box in the render dialog window:

This is a setting that is not influenced by the render profile/preset, and you have to check this or uncheck it. Note that if there is no audio track in your project or if the audio track(s) are muted Kdenlive will not produce an audio stream in the final render, even of the Audio check box is checked.
