Design us a 3D Konqi!

You have the Blender skills, we have the reference!

Tyson Tan has contributed a reference sheet to help you design a Konqi in 3D in Blender:

And we want you to submit a design we can use in graphics, animations, 3D printed figurines, action figures and trophies for Akademy Awards.

Share your progress here and enlist the help of other 3D artists, riggers, and material creators.

WIP, Gonna make mid-low poly model around 10k faces, really nice and detailed reference, having a lot of fun modeling it!

Looking good! BTW, Do we need some extra reference for Konqi’s expressions? Especially open mouth, to create his signature smile? While we always draw him with an open smile, I didn’t design it to be 3D-proof. If you want it, I can try to draw it over this sheet.

Heavily WIP, here’s hoping I can stay motivated to retopo and rig, if not I might just upload the WIP and hope someone else can make use of it

Expressions would be nice, I will probably make two model types 1 with shape keys for the mouth so it’s a bit easier to animate and second one for printing without inner geometry of a mouth and higher poly count.
I will do basic A O E sounds and some expressions like happy, sad, angry, etc. so the expression ref list would be really helpful, also I’m not sure how teeth would look like, I’d think it’s only two fangs but it would be nice to clarify that as well.

Aahh you guys beat me to it! Well, I tried my best too, WIP with no rigging yet, but textures and model basically done..

10k tris for regular with a lower-poly around 2k version if you disable subdivisions. Like previously said no expressions, could be done with textures tho..

First time making a model from scratch, going to be quite the learning experience.

Very early WIP, not finished blocking out yet, but have pre-emptively set up a colour mask so that the same model could be used for Katie and Kori (Their antlers, spikes, and clothes would be done later under blend shapes so they can be swapped between).

Probably last WIP update, all the fun stuff is over now only rigging and shape keys.

If you have any suggestions on design improvements/critics i would be happy to hear! (i might adjust eyes a little bit in the future)

LOOKS FIRE!! But the eyes look kinda odd especially viewed from the back. Other than that, very quality model!!

Btw what cell shader did u use :33

Yeah, i will fix the eyes at some point later, my vision is cloudy because of adjusting everything, for cell shading i used inverted hull method for outline and simple shader for the material, in the future i might replace that shader with one that reacts to the light color.
The eyes and dark parts are just 1 constant color with no shading.

(the material shader.)

I see the error above. Is it just me?

I see the same error.

Nice to see these models.

I’ve tried to make this, but I ain’t good with 3D Modeiling, juat with premade models hehe

Hi, sorry if I’m a bit late, but I saw this post today and decided to throw my hat into the ring as well. Still very much a WIP though, only made this in the afternoon.

You’re not late and we just published this. We look forward to your suggestions.

I’ve polished the model a bit more. Please feel free to suggest changes or additions (e.g. facial expressions are still TBD). I’ll add details (horns, spikes) later.

P.S.: If this many images are a problem, I can delete them.
