I totally understand that AI features aren’t for everyone. The auto-rotation feature was added in direct response to multiple user requests—many people find it helpful for quickly organizing large batches of images without manual adjustments.

This tool is very useful for people who are scanning old slides or physical photos, helping them preserve memories that might otherwise be lost to time. Whether it’s digitizing family albums or restoring historical images, this feature makes it easier to prepare cherished photos for sharing with future generations.

Additionally, the digiKam team takes privacy very seriously. The neural network used for image rotation is downloaded directly to the user’s computer, meaning no information is sent to the cloud. Everything is processed locally, ensuring users have complete control over their images without any external data sharing. Importantly, users have full control over whether they want to download or use this model—it’s completely optional, so those who prefer manual adjustments can continue working as they always have.

The term “AI” is completely degraded by the media and stock market hype where “AI” is now synonomous to bad quality unusable garbage.

I hope KDE devs are not discouraged by this stupid hype and implement actual useful features. Machine Learning is a really really great tool and can be used to make a lot of QOL improvements in many apps. Modern computers are fast enough to do a lot of things.

Lets tell the truth and that is it’s the average individual that has said no to AI cause of it’s bad implementations by companies.
