Has anyone else had trouble with digikam 8.7 not starting up? I’ve tried multiple installations of the qt6 verion, downloaded from an official site. Every time it tries to start up, it fails at “Loading Tools” as it won’t get past this point. I also tried the qt5 version, and while it does start very slowly, the interface is messed up and no images are shown. I am wondering if it is my combination of AMD Ryzen and NVIDIA gpu using Windows 11 that are causing the problem as I haven’t seen any other reports like this. I’ve had no problems with digikam 8.6 qt6 installation.
In the past few days I’ve had a somewhat similar problem about 3 times, while not trying anything out of the ordinary. Without warning, only thumbnails showed up, but with no full-size images in Preview. The full images (in a NAS) were still visible to Windows Explorer (Windows 11 with Intel). First time it happened, I spent something like 4 hours to reconstruct the databases. Another oddity was a recursive duplication of 2 folders, like Folder B inside Folder A, but inside Folder B there was another copy of Folder A etc. etc. and that repeated to a tree depth of about 20; digikam hung again while trying “Move to wastebin” so I ended up just deleting most of it through Windows Explorer. Second time, I just copied a backup of the dozen files in the database folder but it just hung the PC “loading Tools” - and a hard power-off was the only way out. Tried again with just the 4 .db files (ignoring their related .shm and .wal files) and things went a lot quicker, but it has shaken my confidence. Is it my hardware, or digikam?
