The documentation on “Export to Local Computer” says that this function can create symbolic links to avoid duplicate files: * Create symlinks will add links to the original data to the target location to prevent data duplication using absolute [symbolic links]
This is indeed a quick and very easy way to create symbolic links, but apart from that the trouble is that digikam itself seems unable to use those links. Several other viewers CAN use them: IrfanView, XnView MP, Krita, Handy Viewer, ImageGlass - clicking on the link displays the full image; but digikam (and FastStone Image Viewer) do not even display the thumbnails of the link.
I think this must be a bug, and consequently the reference in the manual to preventing data duplication simply is not correct. Has anybody managed to get this feature to work as claimed?
