Bluesky and Pixelfed are open (and fediverse) alternatives to X and Instagram. They are currently experiencing an explosive growth, so I think that a digiKam plugin to post picture on these new social should be quite interesting (something similar to the already existing plugin for Flickr).
I hope that some developer lurking here could get this opportunity…
