Digikam - saving edited photos

I’m a new user to the Windows version of Digikam, so please forgive what may be a very simple question.

After editing a photo, obviously I want to save it. ‘Save to current file’ still seems to generate a v1, that is fine. But it is determined to file it at some random point near the beginning of the album - rather than next to the original - is there a way around that?

Then, when I try to move it to the expected place in the album (adjacent to the original), I am finding this very difficult. I only seem to be able to move it within the scope of the thumbnails visible at the time and can find no way to ‘page down’ - resulting in having to move it in several steps, which is rather painful and slow process.

Am I missing something simple?

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

No one offered an answer - but I think I have discovered the source of the problem. If the album item sort includes ‘and manual’ the saving of the revised photo seems to gain a mind of its own. If the sort is simply ‘by name’ or perhaps ‘by date’ the revised photo is inserted next to the original.

Hopefully that might help someone else.
