Digikam snap - exiftools missing

Hi everyone,
I recently switched from windows to ubuntu 24.04.
As a hobby photographer I do use digikam.

On Ubuntu it is telling me that I am missing exiftool. I did install “sudo apt-get install libimage-exiftool-perl” according to an ubuntu manual.

Digikam is telling me exiftools are missing and I digikam can’t find them under /usr/bin/.

Is this a bug or am I missing something?
Is there a reason exiftools are not included in the snap package?

I did find this issue here:

It says “resolved fixed” but I can’t find any more information. Am I overlooking something?

I will guess the reporter has marked it as "fixed’ by moving away from the Snap package?

Hm that is not really a solution in my eyes. I would call it a workaround.
Can I reopen this issue or should I create a new one?

The digiKam team does not build or support the Snap package. We recommend using the AppImage from the official digiKam site at https://www.digikam.org.

There are limitations to using the snap package, and running ExifTool is one of them.

Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike,
I understand.
Who does maintain the snap package tough?
From the snapcraft page it seems like it is a verified KDE account:

That is why I ended up here bothering you. So this information must be wrong?
Wouldn’t it be better to remove digikam as snap since it is incomprehensible for new (linux) users which land on ubuntu?

Hi - based on the guidance we have from the Snap packagers within KDE, I’m reopening that bug and assigning it to the Snap component so they’ll be able to take a look.

Thank you very much!
