When using Plasma with convertible laptops and drawing/writing/… with the stylus, my hand usually rests on the bottom of the screen which tends to sometimes start the edit mode for the bottom panel (possibly due to being recognized as touch on it). Similar issue occurs if I have the whole laptop rotated.
The problem is that I am not certain on the proper suggestion on how to resolve this. I have two ideas though: i) (optionally) disable touch action on the panel or ii) a fix on my side - just move the panel to the side of the screen I am much less likely to rest my hand on.
hi, welcome.
the long-press on widgets has been an easy way to move/resize a widget on the desktop for some time, but it does not affect panels.
to enter edit mode on a panel you need to right click on the panel and choose edit from the menu.
it it possible you are somehow right clicking with a gesture or something at the edge of the screen?
it’s also possible this is some distro specific feature, because it does not behave this way on kubuntu 26.04 using plasma 6.6
Hi!
I’m using Plasma 6.8.1 (has been happening for quite a while though) on NixOS unstable, which as far as I found does not add anything extra.
I have tried pressing the panel multiple ways and found that the action matches what is done on long-pressing with a finger on the touchscreen onto an empty space on the panel, so I pinpointed it to that.
To check it is not a gesture or something else, I used LLM to find the possible source code in the git and this section was found: lines 153–157 of containments/panel/main.qml at plasma-desktop’s v6.8.1 git (can’t include link).
can’t reproduce this on a non-touchscreen where holding the mouse button for the long-press only works on widgets, and not on panels.
